The preface of the author
This book thematically is not connected with novels of series "Basis", "Robots" or "Empire". It represents absolutely independent product. It seems to me, in order to avoid misunderstanding I should warn in advance about it the reader. It is not excluded, sometime I will write one more novel connecting "Nemezidu" with other my books. However, it is not less probable that such novel will not appear never. Eventually, how many it is possible to force to argue itself on, how difficult future life of the person?
It would be desirable to make one more remark. For a long time already I have made firm decision in all books to follow to one rule: to write only simple, clear language. I have refused any attempts to state figuratively the thoughts, resorting to symbolics or to any fashionable style which (succeed I in it) would bring to me the Pulittserovsky award. I write simply and clearly that between me and my readers complete mutual understanding was established. Certainly, literary critics can evaluate this rule differently. Unfortunately, in my novels of event often develop not quite at will of the author. Here and in "Nemezide" I with affliction have found out two parallel subject lines concerning by the various periods of time; gradually these two lines approach. I am assured that in this connection readers will not have special problems, but nevertheless - after all we friends - I have considered as the debt to prepare them in advance.
Prologue
It sat in a cabin one, having mused.
Behind a window there were stars, and among them one, especial, with the small planetary system. Mentally it represented it very distinctly, much more clearly, than it was possible to see through less blacked out glass.

He has again recollected the history heard once in a youth, - a legend, a myth or a fairy tale on the Flood which has washed off the guilty, degenerated mankind, having kept only one family. The modern history has begun with it.
