How to Quickly Convert a Picture into an Icon

How long do you think it takes to convert any picture you like into a Windows icon? A minute? Two? Three? Wrong, it takes a few seconds and no special qualification in graphics or skills in the use of special software tools such as Adobe Photoshop. All you need is just a utility titled "Perfect Icon", which enables converting BMP-, GIF-, JPEG-, and PNG- images into ICO files.

The software is very simple to use:

  • 1. Launch Perfect Icon.
  • 2. Click Open to open a source picture.
  • 3. Define properties of the future icon: style, extra effects, brightness, hue/saturation, sharpness. You can apply the picked effects and shadows either to the whole set of icons or only to the certain size.
  • 4. Press Save to keep a new icon on the hard disc.
The quality of the compression is lower than that made with the help of Photoshop, but for such a tiny software this little flaw can be easily disregarded. Perfect Icon supports all Windows versions (except Windows 95) and doesn't require any third-party library.
