Site Design Layout
It's been shown in studies that folk often find all that flash and glitz to be irritating and distracting. Having 6 to eight frames on a page only causes confusion if not done correctly . Make it simple and try not to drive your web visitors insane.When it comes to site design, sticking with what is simple and straight-forward is mostly the best. While you may need to Wow your readership with incredibly flashing, spinning graphics, withstand the urge. The most well liked layout is the 3-column model, because it works really well. You'll find that many good websites have this layout with classes running down the left and updates, advertising and the like running down the right. While this could seem to be a bit dull, readers adore it because it is straightforward, straight-forward and easy to navigate.
Whitespace is another function of a good layout. Permitting for the reader to have space to rest their eyes is a plus for most designs. White space is as crucial as the layout itself.
Graphics should be used to improve the layout as elements that add to what's written on the page. It should be used as an extension of the text and should lend to further clarity about the topic. Graphics shouldn't overtake what is being conveyed ; it should only help to make the content clear.
Using Fonts
There is a standard for fonts that have worked well since prior to the world wide web commenced. In print design, paperspapers and mags, the mix of Serif types for reports and San-Serif type for text has always worked well.
This doesn't carry over to the web where Sans-serif fonts are the finest choice because they are less difficult to read on the screen. Up until just recently monitor resolution hasn't been that high, and if you use serif type fonts for text, it might blur together making reading more difficult. If you are planning on offering a print-friendly page, you must use print design fonts ( i.e. Serif for announcements and Sans-serif for text ).
The second thing to remember about using fonts is to restrict the number of fonts you put on one page. Keep it simple - 2, perhaps three fonts at most. Good site design is simple and easy to read. You may use some decorative type font, but it will take away from the message you are attempting to convey. Standard font families are best, and even with the new high resolution monitors, you should stick with Sans-serif fonts where possible.
In site design, the most popular fonts include Geneva, Arial, Verdana and Helvetica. They are easy-to-read, Sans-serif and superb for all internet site designs.
