Journey to Lake Naivasha
Electric Ursula gave the jeep and we drove for a few days to hippo lake 100 kilometers north of Nairobi. Excellent highway alternated with broken down road with deep puddles, not been repaired for decades. Lake length of 40 and a width of 10 kilometers. On the sides of volcanoes sticking out. The first twenty kilometers is an excellent motorway and stuck camping. Then the road deteriorates and goes to the police station with a rake, and then goes dirt dusty road. We stopped at the last camp site and went to inspect the neighborhood. Immediately saw zebras, antelope, and then a giraffe. By the giraffes come close and took pictures, they allowed within twenty feet and then gently withdrawing. Giraffes sitting birds, clearing out bugs from the hair.On one side stood a volcano with a lake in the crater, a volcano guarded neighborhood as a park with a small entrance fee. Maasai believe the lake holy place and lead to his cattle to be treated. The park was already closed for the entrance and we decided to go there tomorrow.
In the evening we returned to the camping site and found a lot of friends. There was a family of Austrians from Cape Town, for almost a year free trip to Africa from south to north. We were all asking where the hippos live in the lake. We were told that the day hippos hidden under water, they go for a walk in 22 hours, and returned to the lake about six in the morning. We were told that hippos are very dangerous and can not be approached closely. Evening in the dark we could not see anything and decided to look for hippos in the morning.
I woke up at half past five and ran to the lake. Between the lake and camping was dug trench feet wide and feet deep, through which theoretically should not have hippos walk. Soon I saw a hippo in the bushes near the water and ran to wake Electrics. While Electric rose, hippopotamus had disappeared. We walked along the ditch, but the hippo was not there.
