Patan
Although the city Patan is situated just on the other side of the river, we did not dare to go there on foot directly from the Durbar Square in Kathmandu, as the road passed by the cholera hospital. We went by scooter on bypass road, and it turned out pretty far, as the river there is only one major bridge passable.Patan (Lalitpur well - the city of beauty) is known as the Buddhist city since the days of King Ashoka (250 BC). Many Newar, living in Patani - Buddhists.
Durbar Square more properly planned, than in Kathmandu. Churches in the area hit its elegance and refinement. We usually sat in a restaurant on the roof and watched all their lives in the central square.
Around the area - a huge nevarish city with a network of courtyards, cut a right perpendicular streets. From the four corners of the city are statues of King Ashoka - northern, southern, western and eastern, with the third century BC. If you wander through the yards nevarish city, you can find wonderful and graceful temples. In one of the courtyards hidden inside the Mahabodhi temple, which is a copy of a similar temple in Bodhyaga in India (where Buddha found enlightenment). We read that on the building of the police department Patan for the statue of Hanuman is engraved the entire Kama Sutra. Scenes from the Kama Sutra actually engraved on the many temples and buildings, but of the police department we have not tracked down - and so in Patani was a lot of surprising.
