It does not mean that you at all should not touch papers. However you can develop the system allowing you to find for each paper a proper place. You should take under the control an entering and proceeding paper and that occurs to it in process of its transformation from entering into the proceeding. In this case you never will sink in papers. Incoming mail should be assorted and sorted. For this purpose try to study attentively within several days the maintenance of your correspondence. Thus pay attention to necessity of reduction of volume of papers arriving to you. (It is possible, you will find out that some editions and the forms of reports arriving to you is regular, to you are not necessary any more.) You can tell to your secretary, what materials should be thrown out at once what - to direct to other people and what - to put in archive. Personally I have forced the secretary to sort mail on three folders: "to take measures", "Information" and "is postponed". A folder "to take measures" I read immediately and there and then reacted according to the maintenance of papers. "Information" I placed a folder in a portfolio to read on the way to a train or in the plane. I stacked a folder "is postponed", in which there were periodic publications, in a table box, and addressed to it rare free minutes or when I would like to have a rest from the concentrated job over more important issues. ![]()
