Image sizes: 256x256, 64x64, 48x48, 32x32, 24x24, 20x20, 16x16, 512x512 File formats: BMP, GIF, PNG, ICO ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Website Creation? The benefits of incorporating PNG images in website creation over other formats like GIF and JPEG; the file type can be used to make good and efficient web graphics that will wow your customersThe PNG file format was introduced some time ago; it was put forth for consumers in the mid 90's to make up for the shortcomings of the popular GIF image format. However, it did not catch on because the then browsers were unable to support the progressive offerings of PNG so web designers and makers had to use it stingily. One of the major blocks that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had little or no provision for PNG support which meant that the format could only be used in limited capacity. Then, things went through a change after the availability of IE7; this fresh offering from Microsoft has helped in increasing the utility of PNGs. So here is why at three reasons why PNG is one of the most useful image formats around today: You can get transparent images or a property known as alpha transparency: When you pitch GIF against PNG, will notice that one of the major differences is that you can only save any odd color in a transparent format through GIF this simply means that you can get the color whether opaque or transparent with just transparency in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a specific advantage; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. This feature gives you the ability to save a PNG image with a soft drop shadow and then float it against any background. Through this feature you will be able to use an image as a watermark or a gradient background. The file type gives you the option to use the smooth fading of shades from entirely opaque to transparent, exposing the webpage underneath They look fantastic: It is a well known fact that PNG images give you extreme flexibility also; there are several other advantages to including this format. For instance, when you use a JPEG image, you lose some of the data from the original file each time you save the file, so eventually, you will be able to see a distinct decline in the finesse of the media. Although, this problem has been resolved in the image format and you can store the pictures without sacrificing any data, GIF only allows for a limited 256 color palette, which makes it quite useless if you have to store a photograph. On the other hand, when you use PNG, you could get the perfect attributes of the image formats; you will have access to an extensive color display like with JPEG format and it also offers managed color palette like GIF files. Another advantage is that the compression of the file is lossless so the photograph stays as it is despite innumerable times of saving the file. Self Optimization is possible in PNG: One of the hurdles that web programmers need to handle frequently is the fact that the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be regulated to see the pictures appropriately; the issue comes into the picture due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma is a method that helps to distribute the brightness across the display surface. However, different operating systems use varying Gamma settings. So, multimedia that is color corrected for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Here again, in this scenario the flexible PNG format can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the files with an inherent Gamma correction feature so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display a file with the perfect brightness and contrast. ![]()
