Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The advantages of using PNG image format in web designing over other file types like GIF and JPEG; the image format works well if you need to make better and wonderful icons that will entice your customersThe PNG image format was introduced quite a while back; it was put forth for consumers in 1995/96 to cover the drawbacks of the popular GIF file type. However, it did not catch on because the then browsers could not offer support to the advanced offerings of PNG so web designers and developers were forced to use it stingily. One of the main blocks that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of that period; IE had little or no space for PNG support consequently the format could only be made use of to a bare minimum. However, things changed when IE7 was brought out; this fresh offering from Microsoft has helped in increasing the popularity of PNGs. So here is why at three reasons why PNG is is often regarded as the best image formats to be introduced so far:

They look fantastic: Apart from the fact, that you get amazing flexibility wit PNG images; there are a myriad of other benefits to incorporating this format. For example, if you choose a JPG image, you lose a part of the information from the initial image whenever the file is saved, so after a while, you will be able to view a noticeable downgrade in the quality of the pictures. Although, this problem has now been sorted in GIF and you can store the pictures without sacrificing any information, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which imparts it quite futile if you want to store a picture. But, if PNG is incorporated, you can get the best features of both these formats; you get an extensive color display similar to JPEG format and it also offers managed color palette a la GIF files. At the same time the compression of the image is without loss so the picture does not change despite innumerable times of saving the file.
PNG is self optimizing: A serious problem that web designers have to tackle frequently is the anomaly due to which the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be changed to see the pictures properly; the issue comes into the picture due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma is a technique incorporated to distribute the brightness across the display surface. However, various operating systems use varying Gamma settings. Hence, an image that is color corrected for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Here again, in this situation the innovative PNG picture format can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the files with an inherent Gamma correction feature so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be automatically adjusted to show a picture with the perfect contrast and brightness.
