Why Should You Use PNG Image Format in Your Web Design?
The benefits of including PNG file format in website creation over various other file types such as GIF and JPEG; the image format helps to make really amazing and wonderful icons that will entice your visitorsThe PNG image format was introduced some time ago; it was put forth in the market around 95/96 to meet the deficiencies of the popular GIF file type. However, it did not catch on because the early browsers were not designed to support the state of the art features of PNG so web designers and developers were compelled to include it in their designs stingily. One of the major hindrances that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of that period; IE had very little provision for PNG support which meant that the format could only be incorporated in limited capacity. But, things went through a change when IE7 was brought out; this new product from Microsoft has aided in increasing the popularity of PNGs. So here is why at three reasons why PNG is by far the best image formats to be introduced so far:
You will be able to create see through images or a property known as alpha transparency: When you analyze the features of GIF and PNG, you will see that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you can only save a specific color transparently through the use of GIF which means that the color can be transformed regardless of it being opaque or transparent with no other color in betweenbut when you use PNG, you get a serious feature over GIF; because the format supports semi transparent pixels. This simply means that you can save a PNG file with a soft drop shadow and then float it against any background. You can also use the image as a background with gradient or a water mark. The file type allows for the smooth fading of hues from fully opaque to see through, exposing the webpage that lies in the background
They look fabulous: Apart from the fact, that you get amazing flexibility wit PNG images; there are a myriad of other benefits to including this format. For example, when you use a JPEG image, you lose a part of the details on the original file every time you save the file, so after a while, you will be able to see a distinct deterioration in the finesse of the pictures. Even though, this issue has been resolved in the image format and it is possible to store the pictures without sacrificing any data, GIF only allows for a limited 256 color palette, which imparts it quite ineffective if you want to save a picture. However, if PNG is incorporated, you could get the perfect features of both these formats; you will have access to a full color display like the one used in JPEG format and it also provides managed color palette like GIF files. Another advantage is that the storage of the picture is lossless so the photograph stays put regardless of how many time you save it.
PNG is self optimizing: A serious problem that web programmers face very often is the fact that the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be regulated to see the pictures properly; the issue comes into the picture due to the difference in the Gamma setting used for the different monitors. Gamma is a method that helps to distribute the luminance across the display surface. However, various operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. Therefore, an image that is color corrected specifically for Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Once again, in this situation the versatile PNG format can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the files with with a Gamma correction feature that is innate so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be automatically adjusted to display an image with the perfect contrast and brightness.
