Why Is it In Your Best Interest To Use PNG Images in Your Web Design?
The benefits of incorporating PNG file format in website designing over various other formats such as GIF and JPEG; the file format can be used to make really amazing and spectacular images that will entice your visitorsThe PNG image format was introduced quite a while back; it was put forth for consumers in 1995/96 to cover the drawbacks of the popular GIF file type. However, it failed to create ripples because the early browsers were unable to support the state of the art attributes of PNG so website designers and creators were compelled to incorporate it sparingly. One of the main blocks that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of that period; IE had limited space for PNG support which meant that the format could only be used in the most restricted way. But, things changed when IE7 was brought out; this fresh browser from Microsoft has proved immensely useful in increasing increasing the usability of PNGs. It is possible to create transparent images or a feature called alpha transparency: When you analyze the features of GIF and PNG, will notice that one of the major differences is that you will only be able to save any odd color transparently through the use of GIF this simply means that you can get the color whether opaque or transparent with just transparency in between with the use of PNG, you get a serious feature over GIF; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. With this attribute, you can save a PNG file with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. The Image can also be used as a gradient background or water mark. The image file type allows for the smooth fading of colors from entirely opaque to see through, exposing the webpage that lies in the background

For example, if you choose a JPG image, you lose some of the information from the original file every time the file is saved, so in time, you will be able to view a conspicuous deterioration in the appearance of the media. Although, this concern has now been sorted in GIF and you can save the pictures without sacrificing any details, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which imparts it quite futile if you are going to save a snap shot. However, if PNG is incorporated, you could get the most desired features of the image formats; you will be provided a complete color display similar to JPEG file type and it also supports managed color palette a la GIF files. At the same time the storage of the picture is sans loss so the picture stays put despite innumerable times of saving the file.
PNG allows for self optimization: A major concern that web programmers have to tackle very often is the anomaly due to which the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be changed to see the the display appropriately; this happens due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma setting is a method incorporated to spread the luminance across the display surface. However, diverse operating systems use a variety of Gamma settings. Hence, a picture that is color corrected specifically for Windows may not look right on a Mac. Here again, in this scenario the versatile PNG image type comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can save the images with an inherent Gamma correction feature so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to show a file with the perfect ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
