Why Do You Need to Use PNG Images in Your Web Design?
The benefits of using PNG image format in web designing over other image formats such as GIF and JPEG; the image format can be used to make better and spectacular images that will entice your visitorsThe PNG file format was introduced quite a while back; it was brought out for consumers in 1995/96 to meet the deficiencies of the the common GIF image format. However, it failed to create ripples because the early browsers could not offer support to the progressive attributes of PNG so internet designers and developers were forced to incorporate it restrictedly. One of the primary hurdles that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had little or no space for PNG support which meant that the format could only be used to a bare minimum. Then, things went through a change with the introduction of IE7; this fresh offering from Microsoft has helped in increasing the usability of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is is often regarded as the most useful image formats around today:
You will be able to create see through images or a property known as alpha transparency: When you compare PNG with GIF, it will become apparent that a very distinct advantage with PNG is that you will only be able to save any odd color as transparent in GIF this simply means that the color can be transformed whether opaque or transparent with just transparency in between with the use of PNG, you get a distinct feature over GIF; because the format is capable of producing semi transparent pixels. This simply means that you can save a PNG picture with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. The Image can also be used as a watermark or a gradient background. The format gives you the option to use the smooth fading of shades from entirely opaque to see through, exposing the webpage that lies in the background
They look spectacular: Not only do you get surprising flexibility when using PNG images but also; there are several other benefits to incorporating this format. For instance, when you use a JPEG image, you lose some of the data from the initial image every time you save the file, so eventually, you will be able to view a noticeable downgrade in the finesse of the images. Even though, this concern has now been sorted in GIF and it is possible to store the files without sacrificing any details, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which imparts it quite ineffective if you have to store a photograph. But, with PNG, you could get the most desired features of the image formats; you get a complete color display like the one used in JPEG images and it also offers managed color palette like GIF files. At the same time the storage of the picture is lossless so the image stays put regardless of how many time you save it.
PNG allows for self optimization: One of the hurdles that web programmers need to handle frequently is the issue where the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be changed to see the the display appropriately; this problem occurs due to the Gamma settings of different monitors. Gamma setting is a method that helps to spread the brightness across the screen. However, different operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. Hence, a picture that is color corrected for Windows may not look right on a Mac. Again, in this scenario the innovative PNG picture format comes to the rescue, in PNG, you can store the pictures with with a Gamma correction feature that is innate so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display an image with the amazing contrast and brightness.
