Why Should You Use PNG Images in Your Web Design?
The advantages of incorporating PNG images in website creation over other formats such as GIF and JPEG; the image format can be used to make really amazing and spectacular images that will prove alluring to your visitorsThe PNG file type was introduced some time ago; it was brought out in the market around 95/96 to cover the drawbacks of the traditional GIF file format. However, it failed to create ripples because the the browsers of the time could not offer support to the progressive features of PNG so internet designers and developers were compelled to incorporate it sparingly. One of the main hurdles standing in the way was Microsoft's flagship product, Internet Explorer which was by far the most famous browsers of the time; IE had limited provision for PNG support consequently the format could only be incorporated in the most restricted way. However, things metamorphosed after the availability of IE7; this fresh offering from Microsoft has helped in increasing the utility of PNGs. So here is why at three reasons why PNG is is often regarded as the most useful image formats to be introduced so far:
It is possible to create transparent images or alpha transparency: When you analyze the features of GIF and PNG, it will become apparent that one of the major differences is that you can only save a specific color as transparent in GIF this simply means that the color can be used whether opaque or transparent with nothing in between; however, with PNG, you get a distinct advantage; because the format supports semi transparent pixels. They look fantastic: It is a well known fact that PNG images give you extreme flexibility also; there are a myriad of other benefits to using this format. For example, if you choose a JPG image, you lose a portion of the details on the original file whenever the file is saved, so in time, you will be able to see a conspicuous downgrade in the appearance of the images. Even though, this problem has now been sorted in the image format and you can store the images without losing any data, GIF has a limited color palette of 256, which makes it quite useless if you want to save a photograph. But, when you use PNG, you could get the most desired benefits of the two file types; you will be provided a complete color display like with JPEG file type and it also provides managed color palette as seen in GIF files. Also the compression of the file is without loss so the photograph does not change even if you save the file several times.
PNG is self optimizing: One of the hurdles that web programmers face very often is the issue where the contrast and brightness of the commuter screen has to be changed to see the the display properly; this problem occurs due to various Gamma setting used in monitors from different vendors. Gamma is a method used to spread the the light across the display surface. However, different operating systems use varying Gamma settings. Hence, multimedia that is color corrected to suit Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Here again, in this case the innovative PNG image type can help you out, in PNG, you can save the pictures with an inherent Gamma correction feature so regardless of the operating system; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display a picture with the perfect ratios of contrast as well as brightness.
