Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Website Creation?
The advantages of incorporating PNG images in website creation over various other image formats such as GIF and JPEG; the file type can be used to make good and efficient web graphics that will entice your consumersThe PNG image format was introduced a few years back; it was brought out for consumers in 1995/96 to meet the deficiencies of the traditional GIF file format. However, it did not make an impression because the the browsers of the time were unable to support the advanced offerings of PNG so web designers and makers had to include it in their designs sparingly. One of the primary hindrances that marred the features of PNG was with Microsoft's flagship product, Internet Explorer which was one of the most popular browsers of the time; IE had limited place for PNG support which equated to the fact that the format could only be incorporated in the most restricted way. However, things changed when IE7 was brought out; this latest offering from Microsoft has aided in increasing the utility of PNGs. So lets take a look at three reasons why PNG is one of the most innovative image formats to be introduced so far:
It is possible to create images that can be superimposed due to their transparency or a property known as alpha transparency: When you compare PNG with GIF, you will see that A definitive difference in the two formats is that you will only be able to save a particular color transparently through the use of GIF this simply means that the color can be used whether opaque or transparent with nothing in between with the use of PNG, you get a serious advantage; because the format can be used to produce semi transparency. This simply means that you can save a PNG picture with a soft drop shadow and then use it against a background of your choice. Through this feature you will be able to use an image as a background with gradient or a water mark. They look fantastic: It is a well known fact that PNG images give you extreme flexibility also; there are several other benefits to using this format. For example, when you use a JPEG image, you lose some of the information from the initial image each time the file is saved, so in time, you will be able to view a conspicuous downgrade in the quality of the media. Even if, this problem has been solved in the image format and you will be able to save the pictures without losing any data, GIF has a highly restrictive 256 color palette, which imparts it quite useless if you want to save a snap shot. But, if PNG is incorporated, you will get the most desired benefits of both these formats; you get a full color display like the one used in JPEG images and it also offers managed color palette like GIF files. Also the compression of the picture is without loss so the image stays put even if you save the file several times.
PNG allows for self optimization: A serious problem that web programmers have to tackle very often is the anomaly due to which the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be changed to see the images properly; this problem occurs due to various Gamma setting used in monitors from different vendors. Gamma is a method incorporated to distribute the the light across the monitor display. However, various operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. So, multimedia that is color corrected to suit Windows will seem wrong when seen on Mac. Once again, in this case the flexible PNG image type can prove useful, in PNG, you can save the pictures with with a Gamma correction feature that is innate so despite the differences in operating systems; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display a picture with the amazing contrast and brightness.
