Why Should You Use PNG File Format in Your Web Design?
The benefits of using PNG file format in website creation over other file types like GIF and JPEG; the image format helps to make better and spectacular images that will prove alluring to your visitorsThe PNG file type was introduced a few years back; it was put forth in the market in the mid 90's to meet the deficiencies of the popular GIF image format. However, it did not make an impression because the then browsers were unable to support the state of the art offerings of PNG so website designers and creators were compelled to use it restrictedly. One of the major hindrances standing in the way was Microsoft Internet Explorer which was the most well known and widely used browsers of that period; IE had limited space for PNG support consequently the format could only be made use of in limited capacity. Even if, this issue has been resolved in in the file type and you can store the pictures without losing any data, GIF only allows for a limited 256 color palette, which renders it quite ineffective if you are going to store a snap shot. However, with PNG, you could get the best benefits of the two file types; you will be provided an extensive color display like the one used in JPEG format and it also provides managed color palette like GIF files. At the same time the storage of the picture is lossless so the photograph stays as it is regardless of how many time you save it.
Self Optimization is possible in PNG: A major concern that web programmers need to handle frequently is the issue where the brightness and the contrast ratio of the screen has to be adjusted to see the images correctly; this happens due to various Gamma setting used in monitors from different vendors. Gamma is a technique used to spread the luminance across the monitor display. However, diverse operating systems use distinct Gamma settings. Hence, multimedia that is color corrected for Windows may not look right on a Mac. Once again, in this case the versatile PNG image type can help you out, in PNG, you can save the pictures with an inherent Gamma correction feature so whatever operating system you are working on; the Gamma settings will be changed on its own to display an image with the impressive brightness and contrast.
